Description In some ways I think this painting is more interesting when the identify of the woman is mysterious, so I hesitate to describe the history of this painting. But since inquisitive minds need to know: this is a painting of my sister-in-law, who was a 'groomslady' at our wedding, shown here tying her shoe after the ceremony. The background is two shades of gold paint, and the branches and birds in the foreground are painted on top. She wore a black dress and stood with the other groomsmen to support her brother at our wedding. I spent a long time thinking of a suitable surrounding image for her, that would balance her femininity and optimism with her preference at times to be dark and mysterious. The dandelions growing from the tree buds is a reference to her own preference for surrealistic art.

This current series was produced in 2008 - 2009. It explores several themes: the human expression, the nature of light, texture, the background as a subject in its own right, and using a variety of techniques for applying oil paint.
