Description This is a portrait of a man who is very near and dear to me. The image in the background (made with a stencil carved from stencil paper, and gold paint) came to me when I saw the photograph that the figure is based on. It has no specific meaning, and many people reflect on it differently. For me, it conjures the idea of gold dripping from the sky, and also rays beaming down on the figure. I think of ideas such as hope, vibrancy, and optimism when I look at it.

This current series was produced in 2008 - 2009. It explores several themes: the human expression, the nature of light, texture, the background as a subject in its own right, and using a variety of techniques for applying oil paint.
